Happy Birthday America! Corky’s BBQ Ribs & A Coca-Cola

It’s July 4th! America’s Birthday. Independence Day. I am celebrating MY independence by NOT COOKING & NOT LEAVING THE HOUSE! I love holidays but I REALLY¬† have grown to love holidays AT HOME. I do enjoy celebrating and visiting with family and friends but there comes a time in life when you just want to chill at home and not at someone else’s house where you gotta ask “who made the potato salad” or just having people breathe on ya. It’s too hot!

Today’s dinner is straight from the grocery store freezer: Corky’s BBQ Pork Rib Dinner that comes with ribs, baked beans and glazed cinnamon apples! Washing it down with an ice cold Coca-Cola with America’s name on it was the highlight. Good enough. It’s July 4th, it’s BBQ and I am no longer hungry!

There have been many, many times in my life when the Fourth of July rolled around, I was in New Orleans at Essence Fest or sitting in my Big Mama’s yard eating BBQ and watching the people come and go. Those were such fun times. But Big Mama is gone now and everything is different.

Don’t cry for me Argentina. I had invites and options and I am not lonely or depressed. I’m mature. In a few weeks, I will be celebrating my 49th birthday. I am grown enough to do whatever I want and live by my own design. Life is too short to attempt to please other people. Have you ever tried pleasing other people? No matter what decisions or choices you make, someone is not happy. The only option is to please yourself and let the details work themselves out. They will live – and if not, send flowers!
